Quality Specialist

Malteurop is seeking a Quality Specialist that will be located at our Corporate Office in Milwaukee, WI. The Quality Specialist, under the direction of the Senior Manager, Quality Services, helps ensure that the Barley purchased and processed along with Malt produced and blended for shipment, comply with Malteurop's quality standard.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.

QUALITY COMPLIANCE

  • Assumes the functions of the Senior Manager, Quality Services in his absence
  • Provides feedback to plants in terms of barley, production, and shipment compliance
  • Collaborates with the Barley Quality Control Specialist in identifying trends in barley procured
  • Identifies and communicates trends in malt production and malt shipments
  • Prepares compliance indices for malt production
  • Performs in-process quality audits and implements improvement plans
  • Provides feedback to plants in terms of shipment compliance
  • Performs SAP functions including release of material for production purposes, analyzing blend data, traceability exercises, among other functions
  • Identifies and initiates process of shipment returns in potential out-of-specification en route to the customer
  • Trouble shoots malt quality issues, implements corrective action as required
  • Collaborates issuing certificates of analysis for malt shipments

FOOD SAFETY / FOOD DEFENSE:

  • Reviews and stays up to date on rules and regulations as advised by FDA
  • Reviews the Food Safety Plan
  • Performs internal GMP Inspections
  • Assists with internal Food Safety/Food Defense audits
  • Assists with Food Safety/Food Defense audits of distribution centers and transloading operations
  • Collaborates with internal policy management
  • Collaborates with required internal training sessions
  • Collaborates with supplier approval questionnaires from our customers

Technical Services:

  • Assists satellite laboratories
  • Assists with the coordination of analysis used in plant and process studies
  • Coordinates customer analysis and sample requests
  • Collaborates with brewers on special analytical projects when requested
  • Prepares presentations for external or internal customers, including monthly feedback graphs

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree or Bachelors of Arts Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Biology, Chemical Engineering, or other science related field
  • 3+ years of experience in Quality Assurance or related field in Food Industry or Grain Processing
  • Knowledge of Food Safety, FSMA, FDA, and labeling regulations
  • Knowledge of food safety quality systems (GFSI, ISO 2200) preferred
  • Experience with ERP systems; preferably SAP
  • Result-driven with excellent communication, analytical, and decision making skills
  • Strong proficiency in MS Programs, specifically Excel
  • Ability to travel up to 20-30% or as business requires
  • Laboratory experience including hands-on laboratory analysis work, hands-on pilot malting experience, practical data evaluation, and practical knowledge of barley biochemistry desirable
  • Malting and/or brewing experience desirable
